Paul's Thoughts:

Dunedin is a city with Scottish heritage and they are proud of it. Two trips ago, we did the wonderful sports museum located in the upstairs level at the railway station but I doubt that there would be much interest for your group. This time, we did the Speights Brewery tour (@$30 pp). which was good fun but prebooked for a 12 noon tour which was supposed to last an hour but went on for nearly two as there was no limit to the amount of beers you could try. We went there by the local bus which you will find on the Main Street of Port Chalmers but the cruise shuttle is probably the better way to go with a return ticket you buy when you get off the ship. The brewery is about a 10 minute walk from the bus drop off. There is an old mansion Lornach Castle out of town which you can visit but we never have in our three times in Dunedin. Those passengers who did the Taieri Gorge Train said it was not worth it as it was a long day and largely uninteresting on an uncomfortable train.  (This is not the 90 minute SEASIDER Train Trip.)

A few left the ship in Dunedin and travelled to Queenstown and then rejoined the ship two days later in Milford Sound but it is expensive and I would say always a gamble with the weather in the area. It rains 335 days a year in the Sounds!! We were again lucky and the weather was very good so we saw what we hoped to see.
